Our therapists at Swift offer psychological support to families or individuals suffering as a result of the loss of a loved one.
We specialize in ‘complex bereavement’ cases in which people have not been able to recover, in some instances, even many years after the death of a loved one. We also work with children who have lost parents or siblings.
Bereavement and grief requires great sensitivity on the part of the therapist and the client needs to feel comfortable with the therapist.
So, in the first instance we try to match client needs and preferences with the most suitable therapist/counselor available. For example, one of our therapists specializes in working with children.
One of our core values is to respect difference, including the right of people to hold different views. We take pride in being trained to work effectively with people from a wide variety of social, ethnic, gender and other backgrounds, which is an important factor in this type of work.
Bereavement and Grief counselling to adults & children is available at our Swindon & South/mid Wales practices.
We aim to see clients within one week of them contacting us.
Dealing with the Death of an Adult Child
In January 2008, Brandon Worthing-Davies the son of Richard and Sally Worthing-Davies, the Partners of Swift Counselling, died of incurable and inoperable cancer. In May of 2008 they were asked to do ‘Thought for the Day’ for five days on BBC Local Radio and chose to talk about how they coped with their son’s death.

Following a car accident, I suffered terribly with a fight or flight response when driving. I did not know what this anxiety was and tried for months to recover on my own. After a particularly severe anxiety attack, I realised that I needed to get help. EMDR therapy was incredibly effective. My anxiety was linked specifically to the accident and in one session the anxiety was dispersed. I literally walked out of Swift Counselling, got in my car and drove with no anxiety from that moment on. I am thrilled with the results, thank you.
